FAQ's on Stoves & Smokers

STOVES
(Q) How do I light my stove?
(A)

First make sure everything is tightened. Make sure to tighten the hose onto the stove with a wrench. Remove/open all lids and accessories from over burner. If using a long nose match, light match and place through lighting hole then turn on gas. If using a Camp Chef Ignitor, turn knob on stove to warm then push ignitor button to light stove.

(Q) Why do I have a YELLOW flame and how can I fix it?
(A) A yellow flame can be caused by two things: bad air/propane mixture, or a dirty burner. Try adjusting the air vent, the silver round disk behind the control knob. This will allow more/less air to be mixed with the propane and will generally result in a blue flame (blue flame with yellow tips is good).
Air Vent
If you have tried adjusting your air vent and still have a yellow flame you will need to clean out your burner. Please note that even brand new burners can be clogged, by dust or other particles from storage or transit. To clean out your burner simply take an air compressor, and stick it in the air vent. This will flush out any problems that may be clogging the burner. If an air compressor is not readily available a garden hose may be used instead. However, with a garden hose you will need to dump the water out of the burner and wait approximately one half hour for the stove to dry, before the stove can be used.
If after these two functions you still have a yellow flame you will need to contact customer service.

(Q) I can't get any heat out of my burner, or when I turn it on high I still get a tiny flame - How do I fix this?
(A)

You are experiencing low flow mode. Low flow mode is a safety feature caused when the regulator thinks there is a propane leak. To correct the problem, make sure that the propane hose has been attached to the stove with a wrench (not just finger tight). Confirm that all of the control knobs are turned to the 'OFF' position. Remove the hose from the propane tank and let rest for approximately 30 seconds, as this will reset the regulator. Re-connect the hose to the propane tank. Turn the propane tank on 1/2 turn, wait 5-10 seconds then turn on all the way. Turn the control knob to 'WARM' and relight the burner. After the burner has been lit turn the propane tank on the rest of the way. After you have finished cooking make sure the turn the knob to the 'OFF' position first, and then shut off the propane tank. If you have followed these steps and you still have a low flame, you may have a propane leak.
Please contact customer service for replacement parts.

(Q) How do I check for gas leaks?
(A) To test for a leak, pour soapy water over the valves, manifold, and propane hose. Turn on your propane tank and watch for bubbles to form. Once the leak has been isolated, please e-mail customer services for replacement parts.

(Q) How do I clean up my stove?
(A) Make sure to disconnect your stove from the tank before cleaning stove. You may spray the stove with a degreaser and/or use a garden hose. You can also wipe it down with a damp rag or soapy sponge (or scrub brush). You may get the stove completely wet with out damaging it.

It is best to clean the stove after every use. Allow stove and burners to dry completely before use.

(Q) How do I clean out my burner?
(A) Disconnect the stove from the tank, then blow out the burner with either an air hose or a garden hose. This will push everything out that may be stuck inside the burner. (It is safe to do it either way.) You may also use a wire to help remove cobwebs from inside the burner.

(Q) How do I know what stove I have?
(A) If your stove is up to four years old on the front part of your stove there is a riveted on metal tag. The model number is in the bottom left corner it will start with 2-3 letters then some numbers and may be followed by some more letters.

If your stove is older than that you may need to call us to help identify it, but first have ready the length and width dimension of the cooking surface. What your burners look like, and the stovetop where you would set a pan.

(Q) I can't find my exact model on the website, or there are similar model numbers - What is the difference?
(A) All stoves will have a base model, such as DL60. The following letters will be accessories that are included with that particular model. Therefore if you own a DB-60D, it will fit all accessories that fit a DB-60. The base stove model is the important part.

(Q) Is there something wrong with my old tank?
(A) As of April 2002 all portable propane tanks must be fitted with a QCC-1 and OPD. The QCC-1 works in conjunction with the regulator to reduce the flow of propane to the unit in the event that a valve was left on or that there is a leak in the plumbing. The OPD operates on the concept of a toilet intake shut off to keep the tank from being over filled. These were changes incorporated industry wide by the American Gas Standards Association. Tanks that do not have QCC-1 and OPD's will not be filled.

(Q) Can you use Camp Chef stoves with Natural Gas?
(A) You can use the Camp Chef low pressure (30k) burners with natural gas. They may work just as they are or you might have to drill out the orifice to get a better flow. If you need to drill our the orifice, please contact us for more info

(Q) My regulator is making a funny noise, should I be worried?
(A) Humming or whistling from the regulator: Outside temperature, barometric pressure and the gas level within the tank may cause the rubber diaphragm inside the regulator to vibrate, making a humming or whistling sound. Although this sound may be alarming this is not dangerous as long as it is not accompanied by the smell of gas. If the humming sound persists a change in atmospheric conditions will eventually stop the vibration. You can also try only opening the valve about a half turn.

(Q) What is the tie down for?
(A) The tie down is to hold your stove legs underneath it will you transport or store the stove. It will screw into the bottom on the stove and two legs fit on each side of the screw itself. Click here to see the item.

(Q) How long will my tank last when using your stove?
(A) Our stoves are build to be very powerful cookers but at the same time, they do a very good job of conserving energy. Usually, a 30,000 btu burner will burn about a pound of propane per hour of use. So a two burner stove would last about 15 to 20 hours on a 20 lb tank depending on altitude and what level you cook at. A three burner would be about 15 hours when using all the burners on Medium. It is very common for something that cooks on occasion on the patio or on family trips to have the same propane tank all summer long.

(Q) My new Camp Ovenseems to get too hot, even on low?
(A) Here are a few different ideas to address this issue.

1 - The oven does not have any feedback. This means you will have to control the temperature by adjusing the flow of gas using the valve (knob). It does not work like the oven in your house where you set the temperature to 300F and it will hold at that temperature. The thermometer on the front just let's you know the temperature, the stove can not tell the temperature.

2 - The oven will not heat up as hot when you actually have food in it and are cooking something. Once you get something in the oven to cook it won't heat up as fast or stay as hot.

3 - You can turn the oven even lower by adjusting the valve (knob)so that is points between the high and off position. You should play with this before cooking to get a feel for it. It is very sensitive but the burner can be turned down very low.

If this still doesn't solve your problem, please call us so we can help you out.
